Greater Impact Campus Ministry

In September of 2005 the membership of Chosen Campus Ministry asked Evang. Sheri Rouse-Mainor to be the advisor for Chosen Campus Ministry.  In October 2006, Reverend Marilyn Felder passed the mantle of advising of the Christian Student Union (CSU) to Min. Vantrel Mainor, a previous officer of CSU and current employee of SSU. Needless to say, this husband and wife ministry duo sought the Lord about the possible merging of the two separate Christian organizations in an effort to promote unification and centralize resources for maximal effectiveness. The potential merging was presented to the membership of both the Christian Student Union, and the membership of Chosen Campus Ministry.  The membership of both organizations were eager to merge and start working toward accomplishing the Lord's purpose and vision for our campus. So, then, Greater Impact Campus Ministry was the result of the merging of the Christian Student Union and Chosen Campus Ministry. This God ordained merging will, thus, make for a GREATER IMPACT of Christ on our campus, as we strive to reclaim our campus for Christ!

The History of Christian Student Union

Christian Student Union (CSU) is an organization that provides opportunities for students to be spiritually nurtured, challenged to grow in their faith and to grow through leadership experiences.  CSU is the former Baptist Student Union.  In September of 2000, under advisor leadership of Reverend Marilyn Felder, the organization decided to change the name from the Baptist Student Union to the Christian Student Union in order to make it more inclusive of all denominations within the Christian faith.  CSU managed to successfully engage students in Christian fellowship and in depth study of God's word. CSU participated in outreach ministry through visits to Nursing homes, and the Greenbriar Children's Home. They offered tutorial services to students at an area church twice a week. CSU hosted weekly bible studies, an annual spring revival, and collegiate bible studies with area colleges.  The mantle of advisor leadership was passed by Reverend Marilyn Felder to Minister Vantrel Mainor in October of 2006.

The History of Chosen Campus Ministry

Chosen Campus Ministry officially began on the campus of Savannah State University during the fall semester of 1999 under the leadership and vision of Limeul Ligon. Mr. Ligon was a coach for the tigers football team at the time, and started the ministry as a bible study for the football players. Coach Ligon did a great job impacting the players, leading many to Christ. Towards the end of that fall semester, God placed it on the heart of Coach Ligon to pass the ministry on to a young transfer quarterback from the Georgia Military College, Minister Vince Moore. Coach Ligon saw the great potential that God had given Minister Moore to lead a group of young college students to Christ. God used Minister Moore to orchestrate 4 years of awesome revival an over hundreds of college students accepted Christ. The first three years of the ministry, called for great dedication among a remnant of people. The laborers were very few, which left the workload needed for the ministry to survive into the hands of a faithful few. Moreover, the vision of the ministry went forth in a mighty way as God poured out his spirit through many awesome events and conferences such as the Violent Take It By Force, Daddies Girl Womens Conference, Boyz II Men- Mens Conference, Campus Revivals, and weekly bible studies held throughout the school year. Under the vision of Minister Moore several ministries were birthed out: Men Discipleship, Women Discipleship, Urban Hope. During the Daddys Girl Womens Conference in the spring of 2003 God showed Minister Moore a new name in the midst of an awesome worship experience. On that night, the name Chosen Campus Ministry was given.
